Will CBD oil make you fail a drug test?

Sharing is caring!

You’ve heard the rave reviews CBD oil is getting these days. It seems like everybody and their dog are taking it. But could CBD oil cause you to fail a drug test?

Technically, no.

But could you possibly?

Yes, possibly you could.

CBD oil drug test

That is why it is so important for you to know exactly where your CBD oil is coming from and that it is 100% pure CBD oil. Because according to the tests, pure CBD oil does not show in a marijuana drug test. However, its close cousin, CBN oil, does show up in drug tests. Cannibinol (CBN) is a derivative of THC which will get you high. While cannabidiol (CBD) is from hemp and will not get you high.

Also, it is important to remember that when researchers were testing whether or not CBD oil would fail a drug test, they used pure CBD oil. So, be sure to do your research and buy from a reputable source so you can ensure you are consuming only the purest strains on the market.

Legal levels of THC

In late 2018, Congress repealed a law that banned farmers from growing hemp. It is now legal to grow hemp as long as it doesn’t have any more than 0.3%THC levels. At this level, you will not get high from CBD oil. And theoretically it will not cause THC to show up in your drug tests.

However, what scientists are seeing is that levels can build up over time. So, if you use CBD oil just one time that has less than 0.3% THC levels you could possibly be clear from any THC in your system in as little as a few days. However, if use CBD oil on a very regular basis for a long time it could cause you to fail a drug test. And this is even if it has less than the amount legally allowed by the law.

So, if you are concerned about passing a drug test keep in mind how often, and for how long, you have been using CBD oil. It might be a good idea to take a break from using it for a while.

Conclusion

Bottom line: you shouldn’t fail a drug test due to taking the legal product CBD oil. However, could you? Possibly.

In order to have the safest experience possible, take a few things in mind. First, ensure you are getting only the purest strain of CBD oil from a reputable source. Second, if you think you might be up for a test soon, take a break from using CBD oil just to be sure.

Lastly, be honest if you do find yourself in a situation where you are being tested. CBD oil is legal in all 50 states and Washington D.C. so you won’t get in trouble for admitting that you use it. If you are at the hospital, being honest with your medical staff will allow them to make the best decisions they can for your care.
